Tim Berg at the 67th Scripps College Ceramic Annual on January 22, 2011

I used to be connected to Newcomb College at Tulane University where, among other things, they were famous for their beautiful Newcomb Pottery. Now that I’m in Claremont, it has come to my attention that Scripps College, also a women’s college, is also famous for their ceramics program. Is this a thing? Women’s colleges and ceramics? I’m sure someone has written a thesis on this topic. Please share if you know something about this – I’m curious.

In any case, on January 22, Scripps College is having their 67th Ceramic Annual which is the longest continuous exhibition of contemporary ceramics in the United States. It’s being curated this year by Tim Berg, artist and current professor at Pitzer College. The opening is on a Saturday at 4:00pm, so you have no excuse, really, not to be in Claremont for this. Especially because you know you’ll be glad you did. It runs through April 3, 2011.
