Anne-Elizabeth Sobieski and Jane Gillespie Pryor at CGU through March 5, 2011

Don’t forget to check out the Claremont Graduate University MFA exhibitions going on now. They change every few days. This week there are two completely different artists:

Anne-Elizabeth is a Pasadena-based oil painter with a great website where you can preview her pictures now showing at the Peggy Phelps Gallery. The picture on the left is my favorite from her exhibition. The gallery is arranged in a more traditional setting with a bench in the middle of the room where you should really sit and spend some time with her lush oil on linen paintings.

Jane Gillespie Pryor is showing in the same building in the East Gallery. I love this line about her work from her artist statement: “It balances somewhere between the playfulness of bubble-gum elasticity and the grotesqueness of disemboweled intestines.” In the middle of this suspended bubble-gum grotesqueness, there’s even an actual bouquet of bones. Stop by – you’ll love it.
